Outfit Entry #6

Dress by Asos, Boots from Target, Hat from Walmart

When I wore this outfit to dinner with my mom, she told me I looked like a witch. But isn't there something wonderful about being a little bit Wicked?

Favorite Things

Gentre

Untitled #9

1. I'm a big of Francois Hardy's music and her style. If you've seen "Moonrise Kingdom" you've heard "Le temps de l'amour" but her "Tous les garcons et les filles" is my own personal favorite. She also looked fantastic all the time. I'm always getting inspiration from her cool girl + menswear aesthetic.

2. I've seen a lot of puffy tulle skirts lately and I'm dying for one. I would love to wear this with a plain sweatshirt. So tumblr famous.

3. When the Muppets movie came out, OPI released a collaboration with them that was the collaboration to rule all collaborations. I bought Rainbow Connection (pictured here), Gone Gonzo, Warm and Fozzie (best name ever), and Excuse Moi! I'm currently wearing this and it is like a little bit of sunshine on my fingertips.

4. This is Mount Adams and I get to see it every day out of my bedroom window. It is always beautiful, especially at sunset.

Three easy explanations why animals are better than humans.

1. I stumbled across these babies on tumblr a few days ago and I couldn't help but 'awww!' my way through tons (not enough) more on Google. These unlikely friendships across species lines, food chain lines, and stereotype lines are a prime examples why animals are innately way cooler than humans. I mean, gahhh. People suck. Animals are better.

Matisyahu

Matisyahu's "One Day" (2009)

Matisyahu has recently come into my life again and I'm just swooning for this guy all over again. He's just one of the most unique, genuine artists and a real cool guy (not to mention dope rapper). Enjoy one of my favorite songs from Matisyahu. An oldie, but a definite goodie.

Happy Thursday!

A Little Rant

Today I was downstairs when my grandparents started watching American Idol. Now, I understand why people watch that show. It does give some people a lot of wonderful opportunities. However, some country singer did "If I Can Dream," which is one of my very favorite songs ever. She butchered it. There was no emotion, no passion, no feeling at all. Here is Elvis' classic performance from his '68 comeback special. You be the judge. But to me, sucking all the soul from a song is offensive to the very heart of the music spirit.

That got dramatic.

Outfit Entry #5

Trench coat by Gap, Dress by ?, Pants by Abercrombieyeahonceshoppedtherewhatever, Boots by Target

In my youth, my mother once told me that she wouldn't get me a trench coat because I would never wear it. For those who might think the same, let me assure you that trench coats are one of the great joys in life. They are great for a noncommittal relationship in which they provide warmth while also remaining very light, and provide a great neutral. Sometimes I pop the collar and pretend I'm an extra from Casablanca.

Teach For America

Being a senior and all in university is hard, mainly because I get asked everyday what my next plans are after I finish, when I'm not even finished yet. Heck, how about I'll let y'all know when I find out for myself? Because to be honest, I don't have a clue!

But if university taught me anything, it's confronted me with the toughest fact to face: which is the topic of privilege. That is, how I'm, in a lot of ways, completely and totally privileged  while in some other ways, not at all. And it is because of this full understanding I have of myself that I now feel the need, more than ever, to give back to others before I can even consider "what's next" for me.

I full-heartedly believe one of the biggest problems (if not the biggest problem) our country faces today is the seriously disturbing, widening educational gap in our K-12 system. And this is why I'm applying for Teach For America.

Tomorrow is my final interview! Nervous. Excited. Grateful to be at this finish line.

Wish me luck!

Best,
Gent
