Update Post: Vacation!

Dear readers,

I want to apologize before I begin to update y'all on the 411 that's been going on since Gentre and I have taken a much needed hiatus from our crazy, fab, and absolutely hectic blogger lives. (sarcasm le duh). However, Gentre has nothing to do with this hiatus; I'm the real culprit here!

About two months ago, just as I was sealing the deal on my last semester of college with papers, finals, senior events, and all my family drama galore, Gentre was also beginning to embark on a whole new chapter as well as she was sent off to Ecuador for her mission. And it was around this time that I naively thought I alone could hold The Entranders together until Gentre was once again back at my side.

Though, with all the chaos that comes with every chapter, there also comes new realizations, ideas, plans, and a new way of seeing things altogether. And it came to my mind that I needed a break from all social media and really needed to take the time to figure things out. After deleting Facebook, slipping away from Tumblr, and taking things slow since I've moved back home to L.A., I've started to find my balance again. It's amazing what can happen when you step outside of all the noise that is social media sites. Where you always have to see what others are doing, eating, saying, etc. Who cares! These days, I'm only concerned with all that I'm doing, eating, and saying. The rest I'm trying not to worry about anymore.

With that said, I do want to thank you all, if any of you even do check in on us every now and then. And while I can't say for certain, I will say I don't believe this is at all the end for The Entranders. Rather, think of it as a vacation before some major revisions set in.

Thank you all for your patience, your wonderful interest and commitment to our blog, and for understanding that these kind of changes just happen sometimes. And there's not much you can do but change along with it. Y'all know what I'm talking about, so I'll just leave it at that. No goodbyes here. We'll see you soon!

Best,
Gent

Favorite Things

Gentre

Since she arrived yesterday, I'd have to say my Favorite Thing for this week is my Mommy! I won't be seeing her for a year and a half until we meet up in Ecuador, so I'm trying to spend as much time with her as possible. If you can, make sure to give your mom a big hug this week and say something like, "Thanks for raising me vegan and giving me highlights in grade school. I was the trendiest eight-year-old around!" Or, you know, something like that.

Favorite Things

1. The Wild Thornberrys. One of my all-time favorite shows. It highlights for kids so much of the benefits and wonders about animals, nature, and being adventurous. Not to mention Eliza Thornberry is perfect. I want to be just like her one day.

2. Lately, I've been obsessed with Korean food. They've been making some recently in our dining hall (even though I know all the Korean places around here by now), and it's just too good.

3. I've started to think how I'll survive if there ever was a zombie apocalypse. And I've noticed how practical I like to be these days, whether it comes to my outfit, my backpack gear, or school supplies. My water canister is probably my favorite go-to zombie apocalypse gear. At least when the zombies attack, I'll be perfectly hydrated!

Outfit Sketch #7

Outfit Sketch #8

Jacket by H&M, Shirt unknown, Trousers by ON, Socks by Uniqlo, Sperry Topsiders

It's Spring! Here's my rendition of a Spring outfit. Layers. Light-weight. On-the-go-wear. I think Spring is meant for boldness (if not annoyingly), as well as tons of layers for those days where it rains and shines bright in 10-minute intervals. Pretty much Berkeley weather all year round.

Outfit Entry #9

Sweater by F21, Hat by Walmart (wuhhh?), Jeans by BDG, Boots by Target

These were taken on a trip with Gent to the Silver Lake neighborhood. We walked past this wall on our way to this unbearably hip coffee shop (and believe me, it was pretty unbearable). Los Angeles tends two average about two months of solid sweater weather, so if you catch it, there's no better reason to celebrate. Maybe I'm doing that in the second picture. Or not. P.S. I never noticed my hands were so alarmingly pale. What does it mean???

What is edgy these days?

I've been thinking lately how much I miss my old hair. I got it done when I studied abroad in Paris back in 2010, before all the 'edgy', 'cool', and, dare-I-say 'hipster' kids got their hair cut similarly. And I felt like it was the best fit for me. It spoke to so much of who I was back then. However, looking at how my style has changed since, my views on what's truly unique--what's really iconic of one's personal style--have changed as well.

What do y'all think? What's considered "edgy" these days? Why do trends start? What does it mean to own a style now a days? Yet alone, a personal one at that...

Outfit Entry #8

Vintage Sweater, Collared Top by F21, Jeans by BDG, Shoes by Target

The older I get, the more I think that personality far outweighs trends or styles when it comes to fashion. I made the floral crown seen here, and I wear it because I like it. Because I want to. Because it's fun and makes me feel happy. It is a little big and it does look a little ridiculous, but so what? I no longer desire to subscribe to a certain aesthetic, but on the whole prefer pieces that express who I am. Don't you think that people look the best when they look like themselves?

Favorite Things

Favorite Things for next week

1. I am completely obsessed with Serge Gainsbourg's "Initials B.B." I'm a big fan of yé-yé (French 60s pop) and this one might be the best of the best. You can listen to the song, written about Brigitte Bardot, here. Isn't it ridiculously awesome?

2. These shoes are just adorable! When you work for free 10 hours a day, sometimes little  pleasures are looking at pictures of cute, summery-looking ballet flats.

3. The Catcher in the Rye was one of my favorite books in high school, and I'm really digging this sweatshirt. Wouldn't it be perfect if it was totally red, though? I hate when things are almost close to perfect but not quite...

Favorite Things (8)

1. Plugs. I cannot begin to explain how cool (and oddly classy) I think plugs can be on a guy. That is, if done moderately. I really wish I could pull them off. I'd be reppin' them all day long! I just love adding dashes of punk to my style.

2. I've already made up my mind that I cannot keep going through life without owning a pair of crystal-framed glasses like these. I'm literally dying for some. (Like, I need help!). Lookout for a pair of these bad boys appearing on my face sometime soon.

3. I've been seriously thinking over about getting a tattoo (for the past year actually). Again, if done moderately and well, I think they can look super classy. I want a small typewriter-fonted quote on either my ribs (like Cole Mohr, above) or on my elbow, preferably before I graduate college. It'd mean a lot. We shall see!

Ed Sheeran's The A-Team

I've been hearing this song all over random parts of my Spring Break thus far. On the way to the Oakland airport from a random stranger on the Bart. From the dueling piano players who sang my dad and I their duet version of this song in Vegas. And on the radio last night when I was driving home from a friend's house.

Being that it's stuck in my head now, you'd think I'd know the song by memory, but I'm so out of tune with 'what's in' with any form of current pop music that it took me forever to find! Anyways, here's what seems to be the soundtrack to my Spring Break: Ed Sheeran's The A-Team. Enjoy!

Seattle: Bainbridge

We took a day trip on the ferry to Bainbridge Island, where my Great-Grandparents had a house. The wind will rip your hair out, but it's totally worth it.

Spring Break Part 1: Vegas and Cigars

When I was born, my dad bought two cigars. One for me and one for him. He's been saving them all these years to celebrate for when I turned 21. And, since my 21st past last month, Spring break felt like the best time to spend with the kindest, most caring man I know. And at his favorite place: Vegas.

Ever since Sunday, it's been just us two. Hanging out. Teaching me to gamble. Movies. Eating. (and more eating). Shopping. And site seeing. I can't explain how nice this trip has been for my dad and I, nor do I feel the Internet is the right place to share this anyway.

I love you Dad.

California Dreaming Part 1: The Beach

I'm going to the beach for the next two days (woohoo!) and it's been making me dream of the Los Angeles beaches that I grew up on. They're not the cleanest, they're not the prettiest, but there is something special about them and I miss them more than anything. Here's to you, Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice.

Favorite Things

Gentre
Untitled #11

1. If you are a student, ASOS is giving 25 percent off through Friday! I ordered this adorable bag, and I only feel 75 percent guilty.

2. Ummm, have you had fresh baked cranberry-and-chocolate-chip scones? I just had some and they might be the greatest thing to eat. Ever.

3. I'm cycling through all BBC series on Netflix. My latest favorite is Call the Midwife, which is equal parts engrossing, tragic, heartfelt, bicycle, and good hair. That didn't quite make sense, but it really is a great show. I'm really sad I finished it and I'm wondering what to watch next. Any suggestions?

Favorite Things 9

1. I'm obsessed (obsessed!) with these American Apparel T-shirts. They carry tank tops and sweaters with American flags too. I've been wanting one for forever, but it's never going to happen when American Apparel insists on selling way over a poor college student's budget.

2. Birkenstocks. Don't judge me; I live in Berkeley. Obviously my taste and my judgement is going to get a little filtered. (Or maybe I just hangout with too many hippies.) Either way, I'm fine with it. I lurrrve these!

3. When I move back home to L.A. come May, I won't have a car to get me around. While I've been looking into bikes or just getting a bus pass, I also can't get around the idea of buying my first car (on my own!) now that I'll be done with school. My eyes have been on the Volvo c30 for a while now, along with the Mini Cooper. But I guess I should probably start looking for a job first, huh? Yeah...

Shirt by Old Navy, Trouser by H&M, Shoes by Sperry Topsiders

My idea of a classy, prep-ster outfit which can also be worn pretty casually, especially in Spring time. Hope y'all have a happy classy Thursday!

Outfit Entry #7

Dress by Anthropologie, Blouse by F21, Boots by Miss Mooz

I bought this dress because I am in love with the pattern--it looks like a Pollock that married a Warhol. As Oscar Wilde said, "One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art."

Birdy's 1901 Music Video

While I'm not the absolute biggest Birdy fan (though who doesn't love her Skinny Love cover? I mean come on!), her music video for 1901, a track originally by Phoenix, is definitely one I come back to time and time again. The outfits in the video are so great and give me so much inspiration. Not to mention it stars a Johnny Depp look-a-like and Luna freakin' Lovegood. So obviously I had to post about it.

Favorite Things: Seattle

Untitled #10

From a few days in Seattle, these are some of my favorite things from the Emerald City: floral Doc Martens, a comfy beanie, and flowersflowersflowers (because all of those flower markets are unreal). Hope everyone's weekend was as great as mine!

Outfit Sketch #6

Outfit Sketch #5

Polo: H&M, Cargo Trousers: Old Navy, Sweater & Socks: Uniqlo, Shoes: Banana Republic

This is my lazy day look. It's still a bit preppy with the polo and sweater, which I try to be most of the time, but it's also a comfortable look for days when I'm living in the library all day, reading a good book, with tea in close range. I also never wear cargo pants (I mean, really, why would anyone? kidding), but I love mixing sporty with preppy, so I'm sketching out new ideas. Don't judge!

An Outfit to Die For

Image via Dailymail.co.uk

Ugh. You guys. This outfit is everything! Look at the collar! Look at that knit! Look at the perfectly undone hair! Look at those magical earrings! I'm not really a Blake Lively fan but this is one of the most perfect outfits I have ever seen. I sound like a crazy person right now, but I am obsessed.

The Walking Dead

The middle of midterms probably isn't the best time to get hooked on a new show, yet alone fall in love, but it seems I have done both. 'Oyyy vey'. If you have not seen The Walking Dead, go watch it now. It's okay--don't feel too dumb. I didn't know about it either like a week ago, but now I can't imagine my life without it. (kidding). But without Glenn? (definitely not kidding there). It's this post-apoptalycic show about blood-thirsty zombies and these awesome people who stay alive as some of the very few people left 'alive' on Earth. Glenn, pictured above (three times actually hehe), is obviously my favorite. He's the coolest, cutest, and most badass asian evarrrrr. Just go watch it, like it, and agree with me.
